Writing Consistently
Back at the keyboard after a long hiatus. Life seems to roll along, or just roll over you, and you lose track of time.
A writing hack I heard about in a workshop mentioned stickers and calendars. At first, I thought that sounds nice for an elementary classroom. Get your Star Sticker and all.
But for writers, it's focusing to write a small amount each day and create a chain or string of daily words. Each day you reach you written word milestone - I chose 250-words because that sounded doable - you put a sticker on your calendar.
I know, sounds silly. But there is something about seeing day after day of stickers on a calendar that makes you want to keep on trying. What if you miss a day? Just start the challenge over.
One challenge improvement someone suggested was different colored stickers for different levels:
Gold - 250 words
Blue - 500 words
Red - 1,000 words
Green - 2,000 words
Purple - 4,000 words
Seeing a string of daily stickers on the calendar is nice. Colored stickers provide an overview of your writing progress.
I liked the star design stickers and the larger calendar. The stars are easy to peel from the sheet, and the calendar is large enough for a sticker and short notes on the day if desired.
Five sticker colors worked for me. I wanted to keep things simple. Shiny stickers are easy to see on a calendar.
This is an 8-color sticker set, but the price is reasonable and the stickers stayed on for me.

Here is the calendar that worked for me. The paper is a good thickness, and the right size for what I wanted to try. It is also on sale today, January 28, 2026, and will save you more.
